Type of Employment: Full time - Permanent Estimated Start Date As soon as possible Job Duties: Design prosthetic and orthotic devices, such as artificial limbs, braces or supports based on physicians’ prescriptions and examination of patients Interpret physician's specification Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic appliances Fit and make adjustments for proper fit and comfort Repair, build and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances Assemble or build prosthetic and orthotic appliances according to drawings, measurements and plaster casts Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances Take body or limb measurements of patients Make and modify plaster casts Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment including equipment like the vacuum pumps, grinding machines, bandsaw, drill press, vacuum system for lamination, and commercial oven Assist the clinician with patients on repairs, adjustments, and servicing Assist the clinician with ongoing patient care per appointment with repairs, servicing of the prosthetic componentry Oversee operations of the back shop including shipping and receiving, and inventory management Requirements Education: Completion of secondary school is required. Experience: A two- to three- year college program in prosthetics and orthotics and one to two years of supervised practical training are required. In the event the applicant does not meet these requirements, completion of secondary school and up to four years of supervised practical training under a certified prosthetist or orthotist are required. The worker is expected to work independently and complete the fabrication of prosthetics limbs. Language: English is required Salary: $35.40 per hour, 40 hours per week. Important Information: Flexibility in schedule is required. The worker is expected to work a full 8- hour day, from Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4:30 pm, including 60 minutes per day of breaks (30 minutes paid and 30 minutes unpaid).
