Company Business name: Pacific Basin Shipping Limited Business address: Suite 1920 Guinness Tower, 1055 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6E 2E9, Canada Title of the position – Marine and Safety Manager Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Marine and Safety Manager to join our Technical team. The ideal candidate will have extensive onboard experience as a Master Mariner on Handysize or Supramax dry bulk ships. This role requires leadership in overseeing the safe and efficient operation of vessels, while ensuring alignment with quality, safety and environmental standards. Job duties/responsibilities: • Monitor the safe port operation of the owned fleet calling North American ports and liaise closely with Ship Managers and Marine & Safety Managers of the vessels for all matters affecting safety, pollution prevention, regulatory compliance and loss prevention during the North American port calls; • Ensure that the vessels calling at North American continent are inspected and Masters and crew are assisted / trained for regulatory compliance and achieving KPIs, such as Zero Cargo Gear Issues on USWC and Zero Defect in External Check etc.; • Enhance the Company's and Fleet profile with local stevedores, unions and authorities to achieve our techno commercial KPIs; • Conduct on board training, inspections and audits of owned fleet calling North and South America; • Occasional shore based support on behalf of the Company operations department in respect of vessels calling North and South America. Skills Capabilities/Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Maritime Studies, or related field; • At least 24 Months sailing experience as Master on board drybulk carriers loading a variety of different cargo; • Certified Internal Auditor for ISM code, ISPS code and the ILO MLC 2006 • Proven expertise in preparing vessels for inspections, ensuring compliance, and managing regulatory requirements; • Solid knowledge of HSEQ regulations and experience conducting audits and implementing corrective actions; • Hands on experience in cargo planning, cargo hold management, and optimising operational efficiencies; • Experience leading and guiding senior professionals and vessel crews; • Demonstrated success in managing dry docking and repair operations, particularly in international shipyards; • Great communication skills to guide senior seafarers, provide training and support on operational and regulatory requirements proactively, and manage complex operational challenges; • Familiar with SMS and be able to provide correction / improvement suggestions for continual improvement of systems and to ensure they meet or exceed industry requirements Attributes Personality: • You are detail-orientated, data-driven and have a good analytical thinking • Excellent communication skills in English. • Technical Writing • Coaching, Training and Development • Contingency Management Terms of employment: Permanent full time; Language of work – English Wages: $130,000 - 150,000/annually ($62.50 - 72.11/hr), full time, permanent position - 40 hours per week Benefits: • Medical Insurance: All employees will be covered for medical expenses through the Canadian Medicare Program, with the Company covering the associated costs. • Pension: Employees are required to participate in the Canadian Pension Scheme in accordance with Canadian Pension regulations. • Travel Insurance: Employees will be covered under the Company’s travel insurance scheme for business-related travel. • Life Insurance: Employees will be covered by the Company’s life insurance scheme up to the age of 70. In the unfortunate event of an employee’s death while in service, a lump sum of thirty-six times their monthly salary, or the insured sum agreed by the insurer, will be payable to the designated beneficiary(ies), subject to the terms and conditions of the Life Insurance Policy.
