Best Dentist for Kids – All Dental & Braces

Your Child’s First Visit
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit a dentist to receive an initial dental exam within six months of when their first tooth erupts. These first dental visits are designed to establish a dental home and help your child begin developing positive associations with visiting the dentist.
A typical paediatric dental appointment will include the following:
• The dental staff will greet you and your child.
• We will review the health history of your infant and your family.
• Our dentist will ask about your child’s oral habits, pacifier use, diet and general development.
• We will perform a gentle examination of your child’s teeth and gums, during which we will note any teeth that may appear in coming months.
• We will provide advice on brushing, flossing, how to prevent oral injury, fluoride intake and other topics to help you keep your child’s mouth healthy at home.
• We will provide a description of your child’s current oral health in detail, and make any needed recommendations about oral habits, toothbrushes and toothpaste, diet and pacifiers.
• A schedule of regular appointments will be created by our team for your child.
• We will address your questions and concerns.
Remember, if you are calm, your child will feel calm. You can help your child feel more comfortable and happier in the dental office by being positive and calm yourself. You can encourage your child to develop positive associations with visiting the dentist by avoiding threatening language and providing positive explanations about what will happen during the appointment.
If you have any questions about your child’s first dental appointment, please feel free to contact our office.

When you brush your teeth, you should:
1. Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to where the gums and teeth meet
2. Brush every surface of the tooth – the front, the back and the chewing surfaces
3. Use small, circular motions to gently brush the front and back surfaces
4. Use back-and-forth motions to brush the chewing surfaces
5. Do not scrub or apply pressure
6. Be sure to brush your tongue to remove fungi, food and debris

Why Is Oral Hygiene Important?
Oral hygiene is critical in keeping your teeth healthy and enjoying them for a lifetime. Adults over 35 lose more teeth to gum disease than from cavities, and 3 out of 4 adults are affected by periodontal disease at some point in their lives. Both gum disease and tooth decay are caused by bacterial plaque. By practicing good oral hygiene with daily brushing and flossing, you can remove plaque from your teeth and reduce your risk of gum disease and cavities.
Brushing & Flossing
Proper brushing and flossing is crucial to maintaining good oral health. Brushing and flossing correctly helps you avoid a number of dental problems, including tooth decay, periodontal (gum) disease, halitosis (bad breath) and staining and discoloration of the teeth. Our dentist and team have provided some basic instructions on brushing and flossing for you here.
