This topic needs to be repeated many, many times today and on into the future until more people understand that the opinion of God matters most, not the opinion of another mere human (i.e. cancel culture). Once you discover the opinion of God through study of His word you need to ask yourself the question, “does my opinion align with God’s opinion or not? The answer to that question will reveal a lot about your life. All verses come from a KJV Bible. Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression. (Don’t fear or react wrongly to what someone might say about you. Opinions are kind of like backsides, every body has one (an opinion). Most times they have more than one opinion. Are you a man pleaser or do you try to please God? Do you fear [revere] God or man? See Matthew 10:28 below). Proverbs 29:25 "The fear of man bringeth a snare: But whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe." If you follow the words of the Lord as in His Word, you will be advanced by following those ways and instruction. However, if you are looking to some man to set the standard for you, you have set a snare/trap in front of you. The “one and only” standard is God and His Word; there is no other. Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Do not be afraid of another human, especially their mouth). Through the news and social media we are constantly bombarded by the opinions, ideas, views and beliefs of various individuals, from the man in the street to leaders of nations. As public opinion changes, lawmakers and judges create and adjust laws that reflect people’s opinions about morality and impact how people interact with each other. To what extent are people’s opinions the primary authority in determining morality and how society should function? What if their viewpoints and plans disagree with the clear teachings of our Creator, revealed in the Bible? Run from them; avoid them if you can! You don’t want to let people’s opinions determine the value of you or anything else, because then you’ll be overcome with fear of man, and you’ll expel all your energy trying to please man. As soon as you fall into the trap of living to please people (men pleasers), you become willing to do whatever it takes to get and keep their praise. Your self-worth can quickly get tied up in your natural talent, your looks, or your possessions, and when it does, you begin to depend on those things as the means by which you acquire the praise of man that you so crave. Please read the following adages: *Your beliefs and actions are shaped by the audience to whom you choose to play. *Thoughts become actions, actions become habits, habits become character, and character determines your fate. As you think, so you become. *External choices reflect internal priorities. Your actions speak louder than your words. If your primary source of encouragement and identity is the opinion of others, then you’re setting too low a bar for yourself. God’s opinion of you is so much higher, and the value He places on you is so far above the value that any person could ever give you. The KJV Bible says in Mathew 6:26 “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” God shows loving care for the birds, and you are “of more value” than they! You are precious and, in God’s eyes, worthy of His loving care. Christians need to ask themselves: Is God and His inspired Word the ultimate authority to define issues of human morality and behavior? Or do humans have that right? Who’s opinion matters the most? Choose wisely. Issues of today in which we should seek God’s opinion: Abortion, homosexuality, capital punishment, etc. The list goes on and on. It would be very wise to search for God’s opinion on these matters! To be specific about abortion and homosexuality, study and seek God’s opinion about worship of Molech and the shedding of innocent blood in the old testament, sodomy, etc.; very enlightening indeed. | |
