“I want to give my mother her smile back”: Ophthalmologist’s daughter raises funds for surgery for her mother battling cancer Kazakhstan, March 2025 – “She was always the most beautiful woman in the world, the kindest, the most loving. And now, after the surgery, she doesn’t recognize herself in the mirror and turns away so that I don’t see her tears…” says Laura, an ophthalmologist who is fighting for her mother’s health. After a difficult operation to remove a tumor, the woman developed growths on her face. She needs reconstructive surgery to restore not only her health, but also her dignity. Laura is doing everything she can, but the amount is too high and there is little time left – the surgery is scheduled for the end of June. “I’m scared to see her pain, but even more scared is the helplessness in her eyes. She was always strong, but the disease took away not only her strength, but also her self-confidence. I can’t come to terms with this. I want her to smile again, to believe again that her life matters,” Laura shares. She launched a fundraiser because she believes that the world is full of kind people who can help.
